Tropical Depression Dolly is weakening in the north Atlantic and is no threat to any land areas.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) initiated advisories on Subtropical Depression Four on Monday as it moved over an area of warmer water in the Gulf Stream. By early Tuesday afternoon, the NHC determined the depression had become Tropical Storm Dolly with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.
Dolly was downgraded to a tropical depression on Wednesday morning and will become a remnant low later today.
The fourth named storm of the Atlantic season has formed earlier than Dolly only two other times on record, according to Dr. Phil Klotzbach, a tropical scientist at Colorado State University. Danielle in 2016 formed on June 20 and Debby in 2012 formed on the morning of June 23.
