Tropical Storm Elsa is strengthening off southwest Florida, and that has prompted new hurricane warnings for parts of the state.
A hurricane warning has been issued for a part of the west coast of Florida from Egmont Key at the mouth of Tampa Bay to Steinhatchee. This warning, meaning hurricane conditions (winds at least 74 mph) are expected, includes Cedar Key and Clearwater Beach.
Elsa is expected to reach hurricane strength sometime before it makes landfall Wednesday near or south of Cedar Key, scraping very close to the west coast of Florida covered by the hurricane warning tonight.
Impacts such as storm surge flooding, rainfall flooding, strong winds and isolated tornadoes are expected in Florida and also parts of the Southeast with Elsa.
