A mess of snow, sleet and freezing rain is spreading east, likely to produce slick roads for the Monday evening commute from the Appalachians into the mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

Freezing rain led to slippery travel Sunday night and early Monday morning in parts of Indiana and Kentucky, though temperatures had since pushed above freezing.
Early Monday, a light glaze of ice was observed on vehicles and other elevated surfaces in Columbus, Ohio, prompting the closure of several central Ohio schools. Parts of northern Alabama and far northwest Georgia also reported some light icing on elevated surfaces early Monday.
Numerous car accidents were reported, some involving several vehicles, Sunday in parts of Indiana and Illinois, including Chicagoland.

There will be areas of snow, sleet and freezing rain in parts of the Northeast, mid-Atlanticand the central and southern Appalachians. The ice could lead to slick travel conditions in spots, particularly in the Appalachians and along the Interstate 95 corridor from Philadelphia to Baltimore and the northern suburbs of Washington D.C. Snowfall amounts will range from a dusting to an inch or twoin most locations along the path of this weather system in theNortheast.
Any ice accumulations in the Appalachians and mid-Atlantic will also be light. That said,hazardous travel is still possible even in areas that just see a glaze.
