French PresidentEmmanuel Macron predicted Wednesday that the United States will one day return to the Paris Climate Accord.

Speaking to a joint session of Congress, Macron noted that and said he was confident the U.S. would return to the agreement at some point.

President Donald Trump announced in June 2017 that the that calls on nations to voluntarily reduce the dangerousgreenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming.

Macron spoke at length about climate change during his speech to the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

"I believe in building a better future for our children, which requires offering them a planet that is still habitable in 25 years,” Macron said. “By polluting the oceans, not mitigating CO2 emissions and destroying the biodiversity, we are killing our planet. Let us face it: there is no Planet B.”

The speech came a day after Macron and Trump planted a tree together on the White House lawn. The European sessile oak was a gift from the French president and came from Belleau Wood, a World War I battle site where American soldiers fought in 2018, the Associated Press reported. Macron said the tree would serve as a reminder of the ties that bind the two nations.

During his speech Wednesday, Macron appealed to the American public on the issue and even used Trump's campaign slogan to make his point.

“Let us work together in order to make our planet great again, and create new jobs and new opportunities, ones of guarding our earth,” Macron said. “Make America Great Again.”
