When 32 year old Tom Parson from New Zealand started traveling in August 2015, he didn’t anticipate to create the newest ‘Where’s Waldo’ travel sensation. And yet, here he is, 16 months later, the proud manager of a new Instagram sensation, .
Parson has spent time in over 30 countries thus far, and has captured his ever photogenic companion’s experiences in some iconic spots.
The legoman, accompanied by Parson, has been to London's iconic London Bridge, and looked, longingly, over the river Thames.
Speaking to weather.com, Parson recalled the funniest thing that's happened whilst taking photos: “I had a kid in Paris that tried to take [the lego backpacker] when I was taking the shot,” he said. “That was funny and rather awkward-- trying to grab a toy from a child! The parents were not to happy!”
"I'm just trying to have a good time and capture the moment," is probably what the legalman would say if he could talk.
Parson’s account is photographically stunning and pop-culturally in tune.
This shot at Dublin, Ireland's Trinity College Library is an iconic one, which many tourists capture with their phones and cameras annually. The perspective in this shot is particularly artful, compared to many of the pictures on Instagram, which is part of what makes @thelegobackpacker such a fun account to follow.
This photo in front of London’s iconic Big Ben is a spoof on the famous instagram account , run by Murad and Nataly Osmann. In it, Murad photographs his wife in iconic places around the world, always in this style: her back towards the camera, left arm reaching back, and his hand holding hers. Well done with this pop-culturally aware shot, Parson!
I started this account “as a different angle to document my travels,” Parson explained “I like to make them informative and a bit funny for anyone that wants to know about destinations that I have traveled to.” He noted that “some of my posts you will see have #bricktips and #brickfacts,” which is a hashtag he uses to indicate fun facts about architecture and culture. "I know that I have a lot of parents and kids following me," Parson said, "so I like to keep it a little educational and different to the normal travel Instagram accounts out there."
They’ve also visited the Great Wall of China— because, really, if you’re going to travel around the world this is a must visit site!
They’ve also done the ever-loved walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, which connects the borough of Brooklyn with Manhattan.
And the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain, arguably one of the most unique looking structures in Europe, also had the honor of being visited by Parson and his lego companion.
Moving on up in the world, @thelegobackpacker is heading over to have lunch with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace in London England.
The legobackpacker gazes at the Manhattan skyline through some buildings in the Brooklyn neighborhood of DUMBO, which stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.
BRB, legobackpacker is dancing and touring in Seville, Spain!
