From a group of young skateboarders in India to a mud mosque festival in Mali, the winning photos from the 2013 Travel Photographer of the Year competition capture the vast and awe-inspiring range of experiences on planet Earth. With entrants coming from nearly 100 countries to compete for the top prize, the judges had a hard task ahead of them.

Taking the highest prize — the Travel Photographer of the Year Cutty Sark Award — was British photographer Timothy Allen.

"What is evident in all these images is Timothy's ability to engage with and photograph people, and his ability to tell stories with his photography," said competition founder Chris Coe to the International Business Times.

For his stunning portfolio, Allen was awarded £5,000, a range of blended Cutty Sark whiskies and a bespoke surfboard.

Other winners came from a variety of categories, such as Monochromal portfolio, young travel photographer of the year and Vanishing and Emerging Cultures portfolio. All the winning photos will be displayed at a 2014 exhibition at London's Royal Geographical Society from July 11 to August 17.
