If you're struggling to decide where to go for your next beach vacation, Dr. Beach's annual list of the 10 best in America may give you some help.

Compiled by Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman of Florida International University, the 26th-annual list of America's Best Beaches named Hanauma Bay in Hawaii as 2016's best. Located in a breached volcano, the Oahu beach provides some of the most incredible snorkeling in the country, according to a news release.

The finalists are decided using 50 criteria, including quality of water and sand into account, and also safety and how well they're managed.

For the first time, Dr. Beach also awarded extra credit to beaches that have banned smoking. Smoking is no longer permitted on any Oahu beaches, which gave Hanauma Bay an extra boost into the top spot of this year's list.

Florida had three beaches on this year's list, the most of any state, but Hawaii finished second with two.
