Many nature photographers have that one spectacular, lucky shot of lightning taken when they were in the right place at the right time. But photographer Andrea Evans of Girvan, New South Wales, Australia, took a more strategic and persevering approach to capturing stunning images of lightning storms.
In a span of three years, from 2013 to 2016, the 43-year-old Evans photographed lightning from the same spot: the roof of her 10-story building. The result is a collection of images that showcase nature's incredible beauty and power, and feature lightning in different forms and shapes and amazing cloud formations.

Evans shot the colorful lightning storms from the Girvan Estate, the tallest, private residential building in Australia at 98 feet high. The spot offers a 360-view of the surrounding, hilly landscape, and on clear days, residents can see the Pacific Ocean, Stockton sandhills and the lights of Newcastle, Australia. This makesit an ideal spot to capture images of severe storms, although Evans admittedthere have been times she got "a little too close for comfort."
