Kirkjufellsfoss, Iceland. (John Kosmopoulos)

The land of volcanic landscapes, dramatic beaches and breathtaking waterfalls, Iceland is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Photographer John Kosmopoulos recently captured stunning images of Iceland’s beauty while traveling along the Ring Road, from the Snæfellsnes peninsula, to the famous Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall, to the picturesque town of Höfnand the city of Reykjavik.

“Everyone has an impression of Iceland before they go there the first time, but it is even better once you are there,” he told weather.com. “Iceland was love at first sight for me, an otherworldly experience.”

Because he traveled in the spring, Kosmopoulos was able to take advantage of the long daylight hours (almost 20 hours of daylight) for his shoots. The weather also helped him capture the mood and feel in his photography that he was looking for.

“I like overcast days for photography as it provides a moody atmosphere,” he said. “There is a saying about Iceland that if you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes [and] it is completely true. The sun would be out, then the winds would pick up, then it would rain, and then the whole sequence would repeat itself throughout the day.”
