Sometimes, the voice of reason during a winter storm comes from an unlikely place.

In East Georgia, that voice was ringing from . During Winter Storm Octavia, the sheriff's office lightened the mood with funny Facebook posts that reminded its 16,000 followers a little laughter can help get people through even the most serious of weather events.

The county, located just west of Athens, saw some frozen precipitation, but minimal impacts during Octavia. This gave the Facebook page's author a chance to have a little fun.

Some parts of northern Georgia saw as much as a half-inch of ice accretion, according to local reports –enough to bring down trees and power lines. Thousands of customers remained without power on Wednesday, nearly 48 hours after the storm began dumping freezing rain and sleet on the area.
