One stamp image shows a stunning photograph of the late afternoon sun shining into a heavy rain storm, forming rainbows over the crater at Haleakalā National Park, in Maui, Hawaii. The photographer, Kevin Ebi,endured freezing cold and hail, waiting for the sun to briefly break through thunderclouds so he can capture rainbows illuminating Haleakalā’s volcanic cinder cones.
"I was thankful for the experience even though I was soaked," Ebi said. "In all of my work as a photographer, I treasure most the images that show nature at its dynamic finest. Braving an intense hailstorm is just part of the experience—a key part of the experience ...I’m so honored that [my image] will help commemorate the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service."
