Iconic 'Airstream Ranch' Attraction Demolished in Florida

Florida's own version of stonehenge was demolished this week.The "Airstream Ranch" was scrapped to make space for a new RV dealership and museum.

The RV is a staple of the classic American vacation –thatmobile metal box where unforgettable memories are made by families and friends traveling across the United States. But like any great vacation, Florida's weird and iconic homage to the Airstream RV is now just another one of those memories.

The famous "Airstream Ranch," a roadside attraction featuring a row of RVs sticking straight out of the ground, was demolished this week in Dover. Built a decade ago by RV dealer Frank Bates, the popular sight off Interstate 4 between Tampa and Orlando was a divisive landmark for years in the area.

Two years passed before apanel of judges ruled that Airstream Ranch was lawful and reversed all of the fees. The Stonehenge-esqueattraction would go on to delight thousands of drivers and tourists passing through Dover for years.

, a company that owns six RV dealerships throughout the country, reports WTSP. RV One maintained Airstream ranch for four years before deciding that the land would be used to open a renovated dealership and Airstream RV museum. , according to Fox 13.

"I think they should turn the frowns upside down and be excited about what's going to come just on the horizon," RV One Superstore's Matt Strollo told the Tampa Bay Times."A brand-new dealership for people to enjoy, instead of just taking pictures as passers-by of broken-down Airstreams."

Giant excavators crushed and tore into every last one Bates' original RVs this week. The dealer who now resides in Venice with his wife hopes his creation will get a nod in the forthcoming "Airstream Experience" museum.
