While popular for its tie to the vampire tale, Bran Castle is said to have been home to Vlad the Impaler, a prince who used stakes to impale his victims in the 15th century. It was his gory story that inspired Bram Stoker to create Dracula.

It was originally a military fortress and, after World War I, it was given to Queen Marie to thank her for her role in unifying the region with the rest of Romania. She gave it to her youngest daughter, Princess Ileana. It was seized from her in 1948 by Communists.

Nestled in the Carpathian Mountains, the castle is now a popular tourist attraction, but this will be the first time since 1948 that anyone has slept there.
