In the heat of rush hour, it's not uncommon to think to yourself that you must be surrounded by the worst drivers in the country. But as it turns out, one state actually does stand out for its terrible driving, according to a .

The state boasting the title of Worst Drivers in America is Florida, according to the survey conducted by Cheap Car Insurance. That may not come as a shock to anyone who has ever driven through the Sunshine State, but its counterpart, the state with the best drivers, will likely surprise you.

"New Yorkers take the cake when it comes to skillful driving," Cheap Car Insurance wrote on its website.

That's not to say New York drivers are nice; the survey actually found them to be the rudest of all drivers, while Texas boasted the most courteous drivers in the country.

As a whole, the survey looked at aggressive driving trends throughout the country. It found that 21 percent of respondents curse at other drivers privately daily or almost every day.

Aside from the location and personality of the driver, the survey found that another surprising factor comes into play for aggressive driving: the color of your car.

Drivers of black cars are most likely to frequently honk their horns and publicly curse at or rudely gesture at other drivers. Drivers of red cars were also notably aggressive, followed by blue cars. Drivers of silver, white, green, brown and gold cars were not quite as aggressive.

"Interestingly, our survey revealed that drivers of yellow cars (who tend to be 'joyful,' according to the color expert) are by far the least likely to behave angrily toward other drivers," the results of the survey noted.

The study did have a silver lining, however: it found that while most people encounter rude drivers on a regular basis, they reported encountering courteous drivers far more frequently.

Compare the aggressive driving survey to the across the nation, and you'll find some interesting correlations. While Florida's bad drivers don't receive the highest premium (that would be in Michigan), the state ranks in the top 10 for highest rates at a staggering $1,654. New York, on the other hand, is in the top 10 for lowest rates at a significantly cheaper $1,050 premium. Maine had the cheapest premium at $808.

CarInsurance.com also , taking into account a number of factors includinginsurance rates, uninsured drivers, traffic fatalities, the conditions of roads and bridges, repair costs, cost of gas, commute delays and byways. Their report found Utah to be the best state for driving and California as the worst.

Their survey of 1,000 people also found that nearly a quarter of all drivers "dread" driving, with 48 percent attributing the awful experience to other bad drivers behind the wheel.

There's a lesson to be learned here in that oft-recited golden rule: if more drivers would curb their aggression and try to be more courteous, those congested roadways could quite possibly change for the better.
