First Accumulating Snow of the Season for Some in the Great Lakes, Including Chicago

A disturbance and cold front will track eastward Friday.With colder air in place, snow is expected in parts of the Midwest and interior Northeast.For some locations, this will be the first accumulating snow of the season.

Parts of the Great Lakes region saw their first accumulating snow of the season this week as acold and active weather pattern settled in.

Numerous accidents were reported on Interstate 80 on Friday morning in eastern Nebraska due to the combination of snow and gusty winds.

Snow also impacted travel on Friday morning in Minnesota, includingthe Minneapolis/St. Paul area where about an inch was recorded.

Near Lake Superior, Grand Portage reported 13.5 inches as of Friday morning.

A foot of snow fell near Stratton, Nebraska, Thursday while 5.5 inches was measured near Warrensburg, Missouri, and in Allen, Kansas.

Light snow turned roadways slick in , Thursday afternoon when multiple accidents were reported in the area. Just under an inch of snowaccumulated in Sioux Falls on Thursday.

Kansas City saw their second measurable snowfall of the season and picked up 1.3 inches on Thursday.

This light snowfall was enough for a few cities to receive the first accumulating snow of the season. Accumulating snow refers to at least 0.1 inches of snow.

Chicago and Milwaukee are twospots that experienced their first accumulating snow on Friday.

It's not unusual for cities in the Midwest to experience theirfirst accumulating snow this time of year. Chicago typically sees its first snow around Nov. 16, and Milwaukee sees its average first snow around Nov. 13.
