Veteran diver and underwater photographer Alastair Scarlett captured some magical moments in the waters of Maldives and Mexico. He and a team of divers swam through an eerie green light that shone through the waters. It’s a kind of sight one would expect to see in a scene from a sci-fi movie.

Capturing the moment, however, wasn’t as easy as it seemed. “The essence of free diving is to remain relaxed at all times,” Scarlett said. “It’s difficult, but preparation is key.”

Each dive is different depending on the conditions and the depth of the waters. While one can prepare, different elements can factor in change. “The key is to expect the unexpected,” he said.

Scarlett currently works as a printer at a garment decoration company, but finds time to for his passion.

“I’m doing what I love, and I couldn’t enjoy it more.”
