Climate Change Brings Ice-Free Winters to Thousands of Lakes

Scientists quantified the impacts of a warming climate on lake ice for the first time in a new study. After surveying 1.4 million lakes in the Northern Hemisphere, they found that thousands of lakes are losing ice at a record pace, and some are even experiencing more frequent ice-free winters.
