Cities May Ban ‘Right On Red’ Rules For Pedestrian Safety

In the 1970s, U.S. policymakers decided to permit drivers to turn right at a red light when it was safe — a move meant to prevent idling at a red light amid a gas and energy crisis. But now, some pedestrian advocates say the policy is detrimental and should be done away with.
