Life’s a movie and we’re all actors in it. Really bad ones. But sometimes, we can get the opportunity to actually visit movie sets IRL. and you know what? It’s pretty chill. Here are 11 epic movie and TV tours worldwide for those wishing to escape reality, in reality.

Lord of the Rings

See hobbit homes and enjoy the world of elves and Gollum. Really-- they filmed it in New Zealand! You can check out the beautiful waterfalls and greenery, so inherent to Middle Earth. If you’ve ever wanted to just hit up Middle Earth, this is the tour for you.

Visit the Grantham family and their house staff...because why not. On your next trip to London, take the hour and a half journey and get up close and personal with the real Downton Abbey, better known as Highclere Castle, as well as the village of Bampton in Oxfordshire, where many of the show's scenes are set, by taking part in a Downton Abbey-themed tours.

While Westeros and Essos might be fictional continents, Europe isn’t. IRL, Game of Thrones is filmed in Croatia, Northern Ireland, Ouarzazate in the Moroccan desert, Malta, and Iceland. I mean, come on, we know you are dying to hit up King’s Landing for real, which is, by the way, Dubrovnik’s UNESCO World Heritage Old Town in Croatia.

WAIT. Don’t keep scrolling just yet. Remember Popeye? Vaguely? Yeah, me too. Apparently, back in the days before movies were all about how much they grossed, Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Productions had an entire village built for Popeye (1980). Well, sort of. The group of rustic and ramshackle wooden buildings are on Anchor Bay in the Mediterranean island of Malta. The site is one of pilgrimage for Popeye fans and also an outdoor family complex and park.

Tom's Restaurant. New York, NY: Tom's Restaurant: Jerry Seinfeld sitcom was filmed in this nowadays iconic New York city cafeteria. The small restaurant is a popular tourist attraction when in the city.

...and those same cliffs are where the powers that be filmed the scene where Dumbledore and Harry go find the sixth Horcrux. In addition to visiting the Cliff though, if you’re already on the island formerly known as Britannia, might as well hope over to London’s King Cross Station and Alnwick Castle, Northumberland, England, aka real life Hogwarts. And yes, there are tour companies that will organize this for you, if you are so inclined.

Ok. I know. You thought this happened in outer space. Same. But actually they filed in all around planet earth, most notably in central Tunisia

Oh, and there was that one scene they filmed at the Mayan ruins in Tikal, Guatemala, which is pretty much one of any Guatemalan tour guides fun facts.

To Catch a Thief

Because we all need a little bit more Grace Kelly in our lives, right? The 1955 Alfred Hitchcock romantic thriller, To Catch a Thief was filmed throughout the French Riviera and Monaco. Visiting those areas now, while parts of them look more built up than they used to, is a walk back into a regal, romantic past. And yes, there are tour companies which run themed excursions!
