Rain from Winter Storm Diego Blamed for Fatal Crash in Texas

Rain from Winter Storm Diego is being blamed for a fatal crash Friday on the Sam Houston Tollway near Houston.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said on Beltway 8 near Wallisville Road. The highway was closed in both directions at the height of rush hour.

The rain made Friday evening , the Houston Chronicle reported.

Earlier in the day, ain Houston because of the weather. Seven flights were diverted to other airports. Even after the ground stop was lifted, arriving flights were still being delayed up to an hour and 15 minutes.

About 7:45 p.m. Friday, the National Weather Service issued for Bastrop, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, and Travis counties.

The Austin American-Statesman reported that somein Travis, Williamson, Hays and Bastrop counties. Parts of those areas had seen up to 4 inches of rain over the past 48 hours.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the State Operations Center to increase the levels of readiness, and he made state resources available to assist local officials in their response efforts.

“I encourage all Texans to stay alert to potentially hazardous road conditions and changing weather patterns,”Abbott said in a news release. “Texas is prepared to respond and offer the necessary assistance to local communities as they deal with the impact of this storm.”
