Croatian photographer Mirna Pavlovic, 27, loves to explore and photograph obscure, long-forgotten homes and buildings that have been left to the elements.

“I always loved, but never got to do archeology,” she told weather.com. “I was always obsessed with the desire to make discoveries [and] that desire translated into the next best thing, which is exploring abandoned places.

Finding forsaken places to explore can be a time consuming process, she said, requiring hours of research on obscure blogs or in library archives and databases. But the time is worth it, she says, when she gets to sneak into delicate, empty, and crumbling places that have been untouched by humans for years.

“In the feeling of risk, adventure and unknown, we explorers feel most alive,” Pavlovic said. “I like places that are larger than life, in which you can feel really small [and] I also love places when the onslaught of nature has intertwined with the architecture, resulting in something new, a hybrid of what was there and the decay.”

Like many other photographers who photograph abandoned buildings, Pavlovic didn't disclose the locations of the places she has explored.
